Morgan Deming led Lake Superior State with nine kills and three block assists, as the Lakers beat Roosevelt in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20.
LSSUÂ (1-16, 1-9 GLIAC) dominated the first two sets, never trailing and rarely seeing tied scores. Lake State dominated from the service line, scoring 13 service aces, while Roosevelt (2-20, 1-9 GLIAC) only tallied two. While Roosevelt had seven service errors compared to LSSU's ten, it was Lake State applying consistent pressure at the line and forcing the opposition out of system. Roosevelt had just three players finish with an attacking percentage over .000, committing 25 team attacking errors.
Valeriya Varnakova scored eight kills on 21 swings for Lake Superior State, while adding three service aces and four digs. She made three key plays late in the third set to put LSSU in a tremendous position, scoring a kill and two service aces. That pushed a 20-18 scoreline to 23-18, all but sealing the win for LSSU.
Mia Garcia led LSSU with 12 digs in the match.
Elisa Rizzoli played very well defensively, registering nine digs. The first-year player has drawn significant attention for her attacking prowess, but has shown great defensive acumen as well.
