FINDLAY, Ohio - Lake Superior State lost a five-set decision to
Minnesota-Crookston and fell in three games to Southern Indiana
during the first day of competition at the Findlay Volleyball
Invitational.
Minnesota-Crookston (2-3) pulled away from a 13-13 tie in
the fifth set to win 21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13 Friday
morning. Southern Indiana (4-2) survived a back-and-forth
third set to win 25-16, 25-21, 28-26 Friday afternoon.
Freshman Nikki Stratelak totaled 14 kills, sophomore Abby
Shereda had 13 and senior Jessica Ewer added 12 to lead the Lakers
(0-6) against the Golden Eagles. Ewer also had only one error in 27
attempts for a .407 attack percentage and contributed 12 digs.
Sophomore setter Janelle Balkwill totaled 48 assists, and
sophomore libero Brittany Newberry had 34 digs. Senior Sara
Hess contributed three solo blocks and two block assists.
Sophomore Jeanna Radzinski totaled seven kills and four blocks
to lead the Lakers against Southern Indiana. Ewer and junior
Samantha Gibbs added six kills each. Balkwill totaled 22
assists and four block assists.
