Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Despite going scoreless for over 25
minutes during Friday's game at Taffy Abel Arena, Lake
Superior State (13-8-4, 8-7-2-1 Central Collegiate Hockey
Association) found a way to beat Nebraska-Omaha (10-10-5,
6-9-2-1 CCHA), 2-1.
The Mavericks were the first to notch a goal at 9:37 of the
first period. Jeric Agosta's goal turned out to be UNO's
only one for the evening.
The Lakers came back to even the score, 1-1, at 14:06 of
the second. Freshman forward Nick McParland (2-3--5) scored on
assists from freshman forward Zach Trotman (1-5--6) and junior
forward Will Acton (5-12--17).
Lake Superior State and Nebraska-Omaha were
deadlocked until the LSSU junior forward Rick Schofield
(12-10--22) netted the game winner with 1:30 left in
the third period. Acton and senior forward Pat Aubry (2-7--9) had
the assists.
LSSU held UNO 0-for-3 on the power-play while finishing
0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
LSSU junior goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson stopped 37 shots on
net. UNO's John Faulkner deflected 27 Laker shots for the night.
With the win, LSSU is tied for fourth place with Alaska in
the CCHA standings heading into Saturday's rematch at 7:05
p.m.
