Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio - The Findlay women's basketball team outscored
Lake Superior State 15-3 during the first 5 1/2 minutes
of the second half Thursday and held on for a 59-56 home victory,
which avenged an 11-point December road loss.
Junior guard Ronlea Peterson canned a three-pointer, sophomore
center Cassy Schemberger made two lay-ups and Nicole Marshall made
one-of-two free throws as Lake Superior State (9-8 overall,
6-7 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) out-scored
Findlay 8-2 to tie the game 56-56 with 1:06 remaining.
Laura Bardall scored with 56 seconds to go to give Findlay (14-4
overall, 9-4 GLIAC) a 58-56 lead. LSSU missed two game-tying shots
during the final 45 seconds.
Lake Superior State led 28-26 at halftime, but shot only 37.5
percent (9-of-24) from the field in the second half and 38.8
percent for the game. Findlay fared a bit better, shooting 42.1
percent for the night.
Emily Joseph was 4-of-8 from three-point range and led LSSU
with 18 points, while Marshall had 10 points and five
rebounds. Post players Maria Blazejewski and Schemberger combined
to total 16 points and 16 rebounds.
The Lakers were 6-of-17 from behind the arc (5-of-12 in the
first half) and 12-of-24 at the free-throw line. They totaled 21
turnovers to UF's 19.
Audra Mihalic scored 15 points and had eight assists, and
Jessica Vorst had 14 points for Findlay. Megan Sellers totaled
eight points and 11 rebounds. The Oilers made 4-of-12 three-point
attempts and 7-of-15 free throws.
