Box Score EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 13 Michigan State (15-6-2
overall, 10-3-2 Central Collegiate Hockey
Association) topped Lake Superior State 4-2 Friday at
Munn Arena. LSSU (12-8-3 overall, 7-7-1 CCHA) recorded its
first loss since Nov. 28, 2009, while the Spartans extended their
win streak to six games.
Michigan State, hosting the game on Fox Sports
Detroit, scored the lone first-period goal at 3:23. Nick
Sucharski netted the power-play goal from Corey Tropp.
The Spartans built a 2-0 lead at 2:08 of the
second when Andrew Rowe took advantage of a missed defensive
assignment. The Lakers answered 26 seconds later. Senior foward
John Scrymgeour (5-7--12) hit the back of the net with the help of
a pass across the slot from freshman forward Domenic Monardo
(2-6--8), leaving the Lakers down 2-1.
Michigan State regained the two-goal lead when Derek
Grant scored on a delayed peanlty late in the second.
Early in the third, Scrymgeour netted an unassisted goal giving
him two goals for the night. The Lakers were down 3-2 when the
Spartans tallied an empty-net goal from Rowe at 19:26.
The Lakers out-shot the Spartans 33-32 in the contest. Junior
goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson (10-7-3) made 28 saves for the
Lakers, while Michigan State's Drew Palmisano stopped 31.
LSSU, which went into the game ranked 12th nationally in
power-play percentage, was held 0-for-4 on the power-play
while MSU went 2-for-3.
The Lakers and Spartans will be back in action tomorrow at 5:05
