Box Score ALLENDALE - Grand Valley State shot 51 percent from the field to
beat Lake Superior State 75-66 Saturday and snap LSSU's
five-game win streak.
With the win, GVSU (9-3 overall, 5-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) pulled within a half game of the first-place
Lakers (8-5 overall, 6-2 GLIAC).
Junior center Justin Williams scored a season-high 17 points to
lead Lake Superior State and totaled 10 rebounds to record his
second double double of 2009-10. Scott Perkins followed with 16
points, and Kyle Hunt added 13 points and six rebounds before
fouling out.
Grand Valley State, which has won five straight, led 34-28 at
halftime, but Lake Superior State tied it 39-39 with 14:19
remaining. GVSU scored the next seven points to lead 46-39 and
battled its way to a double-digit lead, 68-58, with 1:54 to go.
Nick West totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead GVSU. Grand
Valley State made 4-of-11 three-point attempts and was 25-of-36 at
the free-throw line. The Lakers forced 17 LSSU turnovers.
Lake Superior State shot 42.6 percent from the field, including
6-of-16 from three-point range. LSSU made 14-of-19 free throws. The
Lakers out-rebounded GVSU, 33-30.
