Box Score 2 AURORA, Ill. - Lake Superior State split its matches on Day 2
and finished 2-1 overall at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament
held at the Great Lakes Volleyball Center.
The Lakers (6-13) bounced back from a five-set loss to
Bellarmine Saturday morning and swept
Illinois-Springfield, 3-0, in the afternoon match.
Abby Shereda totaled 17 kills and Janelle Balkwill had 40
assists to lead LSSU to a 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 victory over UIS
(7-15). Emily Snyder added 12 kills, eight digs and three
block assists, and Brittany Newberry had 18 digs.
Bellarmine was one of two Great Lakes Valley Conference teams to
go 3-0 in the tournament.
Shereda tied her overall career high and set a new high for
kills in a three-set match. Snyder's 18.5 points was a season high
for a three-set match, as was Balkwill's assists and LSSU's team
total of 49 kills. The Lakers had a season-high attack
percentage of .370.
In the 25-15, 13-25, 25-12, 20-25, 15-9 loss to Bellarmine
(10-8), Snyder and Shereda totaled 13 kills each. Balkwill had 35
assists, and Newberry totaled 22 digs. Shereda was also in double
figures in digs with 13. Chloe Balanda led in blocks with one solo
and three assists.
The GLVC captured the Mizuno GLVC/GLIAC Crossover
Volleyball Tournament title on Sunday, taking the league challenge,
23-22. The GLVC corrals the honor for the first time since the
event was established in 2008. The Crossover, which
includes 30 teams, is the biggest college volleyball
tournament in the nation. No. 20 Indianapolis, Hillsdale, Grand
Valley State and Saginaw Valley State were also 3-0 for the
weekend.
