Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE,
Mich. – Lake Superior State shut down No. 20 Ferris State,
1-0, Friday at the Taffy Abel Arena. LSSU is now 4-5-2 overall and
2-4-1-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
Freshman
goaltender Kevin Kapalka played 60 minutes of hockey to record his
first collegiate shutout. Kapalka made 30 saves for the Lakers. The
Bulldogs' Pat Nagle stopped 32 out of 33 shots on goal.
Sophomore Nick
McParland (1-3—4) netted the only goal of the game, a
power-play goal, at 14:03 of the second period. McParland's goal
was his first goal of the season. Sophomore Domenic Monardo
(5-6—11) and freshman Kyle Jean (1-4—5) assisted on the
goal.
LSSU played the
last 54 seconds of the game short-handed, and FSU pulled Nagle in
favor of an extra attacker. Monardo received at tripping penalty at
18:11 of the third to leave the Lakers a man down.
The Lakers went
1-for-4 on the power-play, hold the Bulldogs to 0-for-4. FSU
dropped to 5-4-2 overall and 2-3-2-2 in the CCHA.
The Lakers will
be back in action against No. 20 Ferris State 7:05 p.m.
Saturday.
