Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Lake Superior State (5-6-2 overall,
3-5-1-0 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) lost 7-2
at 10th-ranked Michigan (7-3-3 overall, 6-2-1-0 CCHA).
The Lakers tied the game 1-1 at 5:50 of the first period with a
goal from junior defender Kyle Haines (2-3—5). His goal
was assisted by senior forward Chad Nehring (3-1—4) and
freshman forward Nick Shkreli (0-2—2).
U-M came back to score three more goals in the first period
before Haines, who was last week's CCHA Defenseman of the
Week, notched his second goal of the game at with only one
second remaining in the first. Haines' second goal was assisted by
junior forward Fred Cassiani (2-2—4).
The Lakers were unable to score a goal during the second and
third periods. Michigan scored three more goals.
Seven different Wolverines notched a goal for U-M. Michigan
sophomore right wing Kevin
Lynch, senior left wing Scooter
Vaughan and sophomore center A.J.
Treais recorded two points in the win. In total, 15
Wolverines, including senior goalie Shawn
Hunwick, recorded at least one point.
LSSU freshman netminder Kevin Kapalka (4-2-1) recorded the loss.
Kapalka made eight saves before senior goaltender Brian
Mahoney-Wilson took over and made 26 saves.
Hunwick totaled 22 saves.
LSSU was 0-for-3 on the power-play while holding Michigan
0-for-2.
The Lakers and Wolverines play Saturday at 7:35 P.M.
