ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Lake Superior State (5-7-2 overall,
3-6-1-0 Central Collegaite Hockey Association) dropped game two of
the weekend series at 10th-ranked Michigan, 3-2.
At the end of the first period, the Lakers and Wolverines (8-3-3
overall, 7-2-1-0 CCHA) were tied at one. LSSU's senior
forward Will Acton (2-7—9) scored from senior forward Matt
Cowie (4-2—6) at 17:27 of the first period. He answered
Michigan's Kevin Lynch, who had scored at 14:28.
Michigan's Brandon Burlon made it 2-1 at 4:38 of the second
period. At 13:13, Michigan took a 3-1 lead on Lynch's second goal
of the game. The Lakers came within one goal 17 seconds later.
Junior forward Fred Cassiani (3-2—5) scored LSSU's
second goal from sophomore forward Domenic Monardo
(7-7—14).
The third period was scoreless.
The Lakers were 0-for-3 on the power-play while Michigan was
0-for-1.
LSSU and U-M both totaled 36 shots on net. Laker freshman
goaltender Kevin Kapalka stopped 33 shots, while Michigan's
Bryan Hogan made 34 saves for the victory. Louie Caporusso finished with two assists
for the Wolverines.
The Lakers will head to the Denver Cup over the Holiday
weekend.
