Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Seventeenth-ranked Hilldale needed a mere 28
seconds at the beginning of the second half to negate Lake Superior
State's immense first-half effort during Saturday's Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Bud
Cooper Gymnasium.
The Chargers (10-0 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) scored a quick seven
points to trim LSSU's 32-22 halftime lead to 32-29. Hillsdale
eventually tied it, 38-38, with 13:34 remaining. Lake Superior
State (6-3 overall, 1-2 GLIAC) regained a slim lead for a
two-minute span, but an 11-0 Charger run was insurmountable
for the Lakers, who lost 74-69.
LSSU closed within three-points, 64-61, with 1:14 remaining, but
missed both free throws during its next possession. Hillsdale was
10-of-10 at the line as the Lakers were forced to
foul during the final 32 seconds.
Lake Superior State was 17-of-24 at the free-throw line
(15-of-22 in the second half), while the Chargers were
23-of-24.
Junior guard Kyle Hunt scored a career-high 33 point to lead the
Lakers, who shot 44 percent from the field, including 8-of-25 from
three-point range. Hunt was 11-of-18 from the field, including
6-of-9 from behind the arc. Center Justin Williams followed with
nine points.
Tyler Gerber led Hillsdale with 22 points and eight assists.
Brent Eaton added 15 points and seven rebounds. The Chargers shot
41.1 percent from the field (36 percent during the first half).
They were 5-of-17 from three-point range and out-rebounded LSSU,
34-32.
LSSU plays host to Saginaw Valley State at 1 p.m. on Dec.
