Box Score MIDLAND - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team was a
perfect 17-of-17 at the free-throw line and shut down Northwood's
top scorer while securing a 64-49 victory Saturday.
Emily Joseph was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line and finished with
a team-high 16 points and six assists. Nicole Marshall followed
with 13 points and a career-high five steals, and Cassy
Schemberger had 11 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
The Lakers (5-3 overall 1-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) held GLIAC pre-season player of the year Pam Wilson to
four points. Savannah Stedman led NU (2-4 overall, 0-2
GLIAC) with 14 points as the Timberwolves shot 31.7 percent
from the field.
Both teams totaled 20 field goals and 41 rebounds. The teams
combined to total 43 turnovers.
Schemberger, Marshall and Sarah Cubr made field goals, and
Joseph canned four free throws as LSSU closed out the final 2:43 of
the first half with a 10-3 run and built a 32-22 lead.
Jasmine Brown and Joseph hit three-pointers during a 12-2 Laker
run that gave LSSU a 55-36 command with 7:29 remaining in the
game.
LSSU shot 35.7 percent from the field, including 7-of-15 from
three-point range. Northwood was 3-of-21 from behind the arc and
made 6-of-11 free throws.
The Lakers play host to Hillsdale at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.
11.
