Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio - It was a night of upsets in the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Tiffin stole the show.
The Dragons upended the Lake Superior State men's basketball
team 89-83 Thursday to garner their first league victory of the
season. They improved to 2-20 overall and 1-16 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers (12-10 overall, 10-7 GLIAC) weren't the only men's
team left stunned on Thursday. Ashland knocked off Saginaw Valley,
72-61; Northern Michigan swept North Division leader Grand Valley
State during the regular season with an 83-80 win; Michigan Tech
beat second-place Ferris State, 70-67; and Northwood topped South
Division leader Findlay, 69-65. The only game that ended somewhat
predictably was Hillsdale's victory over Wayne State, 68-65.
LSSU led 48-41 at halftime despite trailing by five points with
five minutes to go. Tiffin scored the first seven points of the
second half, which was a back-and-forth affair until the Dragons
took a 73-68 lead with 4:08 remaining.
Brian Scott converted a three-point play at the 3:28 mark to
give the Dragons a 76-70 lead. TU's Keenan Barlow answered Laker
Justin Williams' field goal with a three-pointer at 1:25 to make it
81-74.
Five players scored in double figures for Tiffin, which shot
52.7 percent from the field, including 6-of-14 from three-point
range. DeAngelo Jordan led TU with 22 points, followed by Scott
with 17. Tiffin made 25-of-37 free throws.
Eighty-nine points are the most the Lakers have allowed in
conference play this season.
Scott Perkins scored 29 points to lead LSSU. Kyle Hunt
followed with 16, and Garrett Konuszewski had 13. LSSU
shot 46.2 percent from the field, including 12-of-30 from behind
the arc. The Lakers made 11-of-16 free throws.
Both teams totaled 34 rebounds and seven turnovers.
