No. 5 Huskies dominate on their home court

HOUGHTON - Fifth-ranked Michigan Tech, which eeked out a five-point win in Sault Ste. Marie in January, left no stone unturned Thursday.

The Huskies (23-2 overall, 19-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) helped solidify their hold on the top seed in the Midwest Region by beating Lake Superior State 84-68. They also snapped the Lakers' four-game win streak.

Michigan Tech fell behind by nine points during the game's first five minutes as LSSU (14-11 overall, 11-10 GLIAC made five of its first seven three-point attempts. The Huskies clawed their to a 44-33 halftime lead.

MTU gained control of the game early in the second half, building a 59-52 lead with 14:26 to go. The Huskies, led by Sarah Stream with 19 points and Katie Wysocky with 18 points and 10 rebounds, shot 50 percent from the field. They made 10-of-23 three-point attempts and 18-of-22 free throws. They committed only five turnovers.

Nicole Marshall and Cassy Schemberger scored 15 points each to lead LSSU. Maria Blazejewski added 10 points. Schemberger totaled a team-high nine boards as the Lakers out-rebounded MTU, 34-30.

LSSU shot 39 percent from the field, including 7-of-14 from three-point range. The Lakers made 19-of-23 free throws and totaled 10 turnovers.

Lake Superior State wraps up the regular season at 11 a.m. Saturday at Northern Michigan.
