Box Score MARQUETTE - Lake Superior State concluded the women's basketball
regular season Saturday with a 67-57 loss at Northern Michigan. The
Lakers (14-12 overall, 11-11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) will play in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament at
6 p.m. Tuesday at Grand Valley State (18-8).
NMU (19-8 overall, 16-6 GLIAC), the No. 2 team behind
Michigan Tech in the GLIAC North Division, pulled away from a
back-and-forth contest to lead 30-22 at halftime. The Wildcats
built a 20-point lead, 45-25, with 15:15 remaining in the second
half. LSSU rallied back and cut it to six, 61-55, with 1:45 to go.
Cassy Schemberger totaled 12 points and nine rebounds to lead
LSSU. Maria Blazejewski followed with 10 points and five rebounds.
Emily Joseph and Nicole Marshall scored nine points each.
NMU senior Mariah Dunham, a transfer from Wisconsin-Madison who
was injured during part of the season, led the Wildcats with 27
points and six rebounds.
Lake Superior State shot 36 percent from the field, including
3-of-11 from three-point range. The Lakers made 14-of-19 free
throws.
Northern Michigan shot 45 percent from the field, including
5-of-16 from behind the arc. The Wildcats made 18-of-22 free throws
and out-rebounded the Lakers, 35-31.
