Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Northwood defeated the Lake Superior State
men's basketball team 71-57 Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium to
avenge a mid-January 16-point loss and hand the Lakers their first
homecourt setback since mid December.
The loss was LSSU's third straight and ended a five-game Laker
home win streak. Lake Superior State is 11-9 overall and 9-6 in the
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference heading into
Saturday's home showdown with Wayne State.
Northwood (9-10 overall, 6-9 GLIAC) controlled most of the game.
Lake Superior State cut a seven-point deficit to two points, 20-18,
with 5:45 remaining in the first half, but the Timberwolves led by
eight, 31-23, at halftime. They built a comfortable 20-point lead
midway through the second half. LSSU cut it to 12 points, 60-48,
with 7:01 remaining, but couldn't get any closer.
Senior guard Garrett Konuszewski totaled 16 points and six
rebounds to lead the Lakers. Justin Williams and Andrew
Charlesworth added eight points each. LSSU shot 36.1 percent from
the field, including 5-of-16 from three-point range, and made
8-of-13 free throws.
Dorian Pierce finished with 19 points to lead four double-figure
scorers for Northwood. Lionel Sullivan totaled 15 points and 10
rebounds. NU shot 48 percent from the field, including 7-of-19 from
behind the arc, and made 16-of-18 free throws. The Timberwolves
out-rebounded the Lakers, 36-30.
LSSU plays host to Wayne State at 3 p.m. Saturday.
