Box Score BAY CITY - Eight of the 10 players represented on the All-Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Women's
Basketball Team represent Upper Peninsula universities, and the
list includes Lake Superior State junior guard Emily Joseph.
Joseph (Sterling Heights, Mich.) was named to the All-GLIAC
North Division Second Team for 2009-10. She is ranked third in the
league in average assists per game (4.5), fifth in assist/turnover
ratio, sixth in free-throw percentage (.837), seventh in average
steals per game (1.9) and 11th in scoring (12.8 points
per game).
Through three seasons, Joseph has 891 career points and 320
assists. She ranks sixth in career assists and second in career
free-throw percentage (246-301, .817). This season, Joseph's
free-throw percentage ranks seventh on LSSU's single-season list,
and her assist total ranks ninth.
Michigan Tech's Danae Danen, Sarah Stream, Katie Wysocky and
Katie Zimmerman, along with Grand Valley State's Emma Veach were
named to the All-GLIAC North Division First Team. Other second team
selections were Ferris State's Tiara Adams, and Northern Michigan's
Mariah Dunham, Christa Erickson and Steffani Stoeger.
The U.P. schools' dominance has continued to show during
post-season play. For the fifth time in the GLIAC Tournament's
20-year history, all three U.P. schools reached the women's
basketball final four. The semifinals begin tonight at fifth-ranked
Michigan Tech with the Lakers (15-12) taking on the Huskies (26-2)
at 6 p.m. Northern Michigan (20-8) plays Findlay (21-7) at 8 p.m.
Lake Superior State junior guard Ronlea Peterson (Midland,
Mich.) was named to the North Division All-Defensive Team. She is
ranked sixth in the league in average steals per game (2.0),
11th in three-point field-goal percentage (.365) and
12th in average three-point field goals per game (1.6).
She is eighth in the GLIAC in average minutes played (32.9). Other
North Division All-Defensive Team picks were Adams, Stream,
Michigan Tech's Tara Ferris and GVSU's Alex Stelfox.
The All-GLIAC South Division First Team included Northwood's
Jodi Ostergren and Pam Wilson, Ashland's Lindsey Gaut, Tiffin's
Mandy Jaeb and Findlay's Audra Mihalic.
Wysocky was named GLIAC Player of the Year, while Stelfox earned
Freshman of the Year honors. MTU's John Barnes was named GLIAC
Coach of the Year.
