HOUGHTON - Several Lake Superior State volleyball players
reached season highs as the Lakers edged Michigan Tech in a close
five-set battle Friday.
LSSU (4-6 overall, 2-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) totaled a season-high 67 kills to beat MTU, 21-25,
28-26, 26-24, 23-25, 16-14.
Junior Abby Shereda, freshman Emily Snyder and sophomore Nikki
Stratelak all had season highs in kills -- totaling 17, 15 and 14,
respectively. Stratelak also had a team-leading attack rate of
.294, while junior setter Janelle Balkwill totaled a
season-high 54 assists. Snyder added 20 digs to her all-round
effort.
Junior Lindsay McLeod led the Lakers in blocks with five, while
junior libero Brittany Newberry totaled 28 digs.
Four players reached double figures in kills for Michigan Tech
(2-9 overall, 1-6 GLIAC), which also finished with 67 kills and
edged the Lakers in attack percentage, .209 to .153.
LSSU plays at Northern Michigan (9-0) Saturday and plays host to
Northwood at 2 p.m. Sunday.
