MARQUETTE - Lake Superior State split the first two sets with
19th-ranked Northern Michigan, but the undefeated Wildcats swept
the next two and beat LSSU, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 25-10, in a Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball showdown
Saturday in Vandament Arena.
LSSU (4-7 overall, 2-5 GLIAC) returns home from its Upper
Peninsula swing and plays host to Northwood at 2 p.m. Sunday in
Cooper Gymnasium. It's the first of back-to-back, home-and-home
matches with the Timberwolves.
Abby Shereda totaled 12 kills to lead the Lakers. Janelle
Balkwill finished with 27 assists, and Brittany Newberry had 21
digs.
NMU (12-0 overall, 8-0 GLIAC) took advantage of its .382 attack
percentage, 11 service aces and 14 blocks.
