MARQUETTE - Lake Superior State started off the second day of
competition at the Wildcat Volleyball Classic with a 25-18, 25-23,
25-22 victory over Minnesota-Crookston.
Freshman Emily Snyder got the Lakers (2-1) rolling with four
straight service aces early in Set 1. She totaled five aces, five
kills and nine digs for the match. Sophomore Nikki Stratelak
notched four straight kills during Set 2, and the Lakers scrapped
their way to a close win in Set 3.
Stratelak led the Lakers in kills with seven, and juniors Jeanna
Radzinski and Janelle Balkwill added six each. Junior libero
Brittany Newberry totaled 21 digs, and Balkwill had 18 assists.
LSSU totaled nine team aces in the match. UM-C, which committed
14 service errors to LSSU's three, dropped to 0-3 in the
tournament.
The Lakers close out the tournament with a 5 p.m. match Saturday
against Wisconsin-Parkside.

Wisconsin-Parkside survived a Lake Superior State
comeback to win Saturday's afternoon match, 25-13, 15-25,
13-25, 25-14, 15-6.
Junior Abby Shereda contributed five kills during both of
the Lakers' winning sets and finished with a career-high 14. She
also had a .270 attack percentage and five digs. Snyder followed
with 13 kills, and Lindsay McLeod and Stratelak had five each.
Newberry totaled 19 digs, and Balkwill had 31 assists.
UW-P totaled 13 team blocks to LSSU's three. The Rangers also
had 57 kills, while the Lakers finished with 46.
LSSU and UW-P both finished 2-2 in the tournament.
Correction: Shereda established a new career
high with 15 kills during Friday's 3-1 victory over American
International.
