Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Senior guard Nicole Marshall scored 21 points
to lead four teammates in double figures as the Lake Superior State
women's basketball team cruised to an 84-56 victory over Lake Erie
Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Marshall was 5-of-9 from behind the arc to increase her career
three-point field goal total to 141, which ranks fourth on
LSSU's all-time list. She also totaled three steals.
Post players Cassy Schemberger and Maria Blazejewski both turned
in double doubles, including season-high totals in rebounds.
Schemberger totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Blazejewski
had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Senior guard Ronlea Peterson finished with 13 points. LSSU
scoring leader Emily Joseph had nine points.
Marshall, Peterson and Sarah Cubr were a combined 6-of-10 from
three-point range as LSSU built a 45-27 halftime command. The
Lakers went on to shoot 40.7 percent from the field, including
11-of-26 from behind the arc. They made 25-of-31 free throws and
out-rebounded Lake Erie, 47-38.
Stephanie Rogers scored 18 points to lead Lake Erie (2-12
overall, 1-7 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The
Storm shot 35.9 percent from the field, including 5-of-17 from
three-point range. They made 5-of-13 free throws.
Lake Superior State (11-4 overall, 8-1 GLIAC) plays host to
Ashland at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bud Cooper Gym. It's NCAA Take a Kid
to the Game Day, and all boys and girls age 14 and under will
receive free admission if accompanied by an adult who purchases a
ticket.
