Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State lost for the first
time this season with Friday's 1-0 setback to Bowling Green State.
The Lakers are now 4-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Central
Collegiate Hockey Association following their fifth straight game
decided by a one-goal decision.
After a scoreless first period, BGSU netted the only goal of the
game at 12:11 of the second period. Adam Berkie scored from Camden
Wajtala and Dan DeSalvo.
The Lakers fought off 12 minutes in penalties, but
held the Falcons to go 1-for-5 on the power play. The Lakers
were unable to score on the power-play, going 0-for-4.
Sophomore netminder Kevin Kapalka (4-1-0 overall, 2-1-0 CCHA)
made 28 saves for the Lakers. Andrew Hammond made 19 saves in the
shutout victory. Hammond killed off a penalty with 4:15
remaining and held off the Lakers when they pulled Kapalka in favor
of an extra attacker with one minute left.
The Lakers and Falcons face off tomorrow at 7:05
p.m. for Game 2 of the series.
