Box Score HOUGHTON - Lake Superior State set team season highs in kills,
assists and digs to beat Michigan Tech in four sets during
Saturday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
volleyball match.
Senior Brittany Newberry totaled a career-high 23 kills and
added 26 digs to record a double double and lead the Lakers to a
25-27, 31-29, 25-14, 29-27 victory. Her kill total is the
third-best by any GLIAC player in a four-set match this season.
Newberry's dig total doesn't match her personal season high of 29,
but sets a new GLIAC high in a four-set match.
Senior Janelle Balkwill totaled a season-high 38 assists. LSSU
compiled 78 kills, 73 assists and 89 digs, which were all
single-match highs for LSSU in 2011. The Lakers' kill and assist
totals set new overall and four-set GLIAC highs for the season.
Sophomores Emily Snyder and Chloe Balanda added 20 and 11 kills,
respectively. Junior Marylou Drobish totaled 29 assists, and
sophomore Katie Fitzpatrick had 26 digs. Balkwill also led the
Lakers in blocks with four block assists.
LSSU (8-15 overall, 5-10 GLIAC) plays host to Northwood at 2
p.m. Sunday at Cooper Gymnasium. Michigan Tech, led by Brianna
Wethal with 15 kills, dropped to 2-22 overall and 0-16 in the
GLIAC.
