Box Score BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Lake Superior State, which shut out
the Bulldogs twice last season, suffered a 5-1 loss at
Ferris State on Friday. The Lakers are 8-3-0 overall and 5-2-0 in
the Central Collegiate Hockey Association heading into Saturday's
rematch in Big Rapids. They are now 4-1 on the road this
season.
The Lakers were up 1-0 at the end of the first period. Sophomore
forward Nick McParland (7-3—10) netted LSSU's only
goal of the game on assists from senior defender Kyle Haines
(1-5—6) and freshman forward Buddy Robinson
(1-2—3).
Ferris State fired back with five unanswered goals.
Jordie Johnson scored the game-winning goal at 5:47 of the second
period. Johnson's goal was a short-handed unassisted
goal.
Sophomore goaltender Kevin Kapalka (7-3-0, 5-2-0 CCHA) made 30
saves for the Lakers. Taylor Nelson stopped 32 shots for
Ferris.
The Lakers were 0-for-4 on the power-play and held FSU
to 0-for-5 on the power-play.
The Lakers and Bulldogs will play game two of the series
Saturday at 7:05.
