Box Score BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Lake Superior State won its first
shootout of the season during the 1-1 tie Saturday in Big Rapids
against Ferris State. The Lakers are 8-3-1 overall and 5-2-1-1 in
the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Lakers took two-points during the 1-0 shootout victory over
Ferris State. LSSU is now tied for first place in the CCHA with
Notre Dame and Ohio State, with 17-points in the CCHA.
Ferris opened the game with a goal at 15:59 of the first period.
The Lakers answered back with a goal at 16:17. LSSU's goal
came from junior forward Domenic Monardo (4-5—9)
assisted by sophomore forward Kellan Lain (1-2—3) and senior
forward Fred Cassiani (1-4—5).
After 40-minutes of scoreless regulation play the Lakers
and Bulldogs entered a five-minute sudden-death overtime.
Neither team was able to score after five-minutes, taking them into
the shootout. The Lakers won the shootout in a three-rounds.
LSSU shot first in the shootout, recording the lone goal. Junior
forward Ben Power (0-2--2) was the only player to score in the
three-round shootout. LSSU is now 1-0 during CCHA shootouts.
Sophomore netminder Kevin Kapalka (7-3-1 overall, 5-2-1-1) made
32 saves for the Lakers. Ferris State's C.J. Motte totaled 16
saves.
The Lakers were held to 0-for-9 on the power-play and kept the
Bulldogs are 0-for-6 on the power-play.
