Box Score MIDLAND - Lake Superior State finished its first weekend of women's basketball action with a 1-1 record after falling to Illinois-Springfield, 73-64, Saturday at the Timberwolf Classic hosted by Northwood.
LSSU committed 24 turnovers and was outscored 15-6 at the free-throw line. Illinois-Springfield, a loser to Northwood on Friday night, was led by two big scorers. Bailey Beale totaled 22 points and six rebounds, and Megan Bargerud added 21 points and five rebounds. Ashley Coffey turned in 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Maria Blazejewski led LSSU with 17 points and nine rebounds. Raven Trammell scored 13 points, and Sarah Cubr and Cassy Schemberger added nine points each. Lake Superior State shot 41.3 percent from the field, including 6-of-25 from three-point range, and made 6-of-12 free throws.
Illinois-Springfield shot 38.2 percent from the field, including 6-of-21 from behind the arc, and made 15-of-19 free throws.
Lake Superior State plays host to Alma in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
