Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Junior forward Maria Blazejewski made
10-of-12 free throws and senior forward Sarah Cubr canned 5-of-8
three-point attempts to lead the Lake Superior State women's
basketball team to a 68-53 non-conference victory over Alma on
Tuesday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Blazejewski finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and a
career-high four blocked shots. Cubr totaled a career-high 18
points and had four assists.
Blazejewski hit a jumper, and Raven Trammell and Cubr made
back-to-back three-pointers during an 8-0 LSSU run that gave LSSU
(2-1) a 28-17 lead late in the first half. The Lakers extended a
seven-point lead to 20 points, 55-35, with 6:49 to go in the second
half.
LSSU shot 51 percent from the field for the game, including 55.6
percent (10-of-18) during the second half. The Lakers also
shot over 50 percent from three-point range and made 17-of-25 free
throws. Kandace Crittendon added 11 points and five rebounds for
the Lakers.
Sarah Stinson scored 13 points, and Grace Wheeler totaled eight
points and nine rebounds to lead Alma (0-1). The Scots shot 31.7
percent from the field, going 0-for-14 from behind the arc. They
made 13-of-27 free throws. Alma out-rebounded LSSU, 40-36.
LSSU plays a non-conference game at Wayne State at 4 p.m.
