Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eleventh-ranked Lake Superior State lost
2-1 at No. 7 Ohio State Saturday at Value City Arena and was swept
in a series for the first time this season. The Lakers are 10-6-2
overall and 6-5-1-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
They dropped from third to fourth place in the league standings,
while OSU solidified its hold on first place.
Lakers were unbeaten (7-0-1) in the second game of two-game
series heading into the contest. Ohio State (12-3-1 overall,
9-2-1-1 CCHA) entered the game with a 10-game unbeaten streak.
After 20 minutes of scoreless play, LSSU freshman Chris Ciotti
(2-6—8) netted a goal at 9:55 of the second period.
Ciotti's goal was assisted by senior forward Fred Cassiani
(1-8—9). The Buckeyes tied the game, 1-1, 37 seconds
later.
At 6:59 of the third period OSU took a 2-1 lead on Chris Crane's
goal. The Lakers killed off penalties just before and just after
the Buckeyes tallied the game winner.
The Lakers held Ohio State 0-for-4 on the power-play, LSSU was
0-for-2.
Sophomore netminder Kevin Murdock (1-1-0overall, 0-1-0
CCHA) made 31 saves for the Lakers. Cal Heeter from OSU stopped 29
shots.
The Lakers will be home Dec. 9-10 to play Upper Peninsula rival
Northern Michigan during the fourth annual Pink in the Rink. Game
time is 7:05 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night at Taffy Abel
Arena.
