Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State made the most
of another strong performance by post players Cassy
Schemberger and Maria Blazejewski, who combined to score 36 points
and lead the Laker women's basketball team to a 68-46 home
victory over Northern Michigan Thursday at Bud Cooper
Gymnasium.
Schemberger was 8-of-8 from the point, and totaled 20
points and a team-leading six rebounds for LSSU (15-6 overall, 12-3
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). She also scored
23 points during the Lakers' three-point victory over the Wildcats
on Jan. 15 in Marquette.
Blazejewski, who was 7-of-14 from the field while attacking
NMU with a mix of shots, finished with 16 points, while
guard Ronlea Peterson added 11 points and five assists. LSSU
scoring leader Emily Joseph had two points and six assists. With
her first assist of the game, she moved into second place on LSSU's
career assists list with 416.
LSSU, which led from start to finish, made 13-of-24 field-goal
attempts during the first half to build a 36-16 lead. The Lakers
went on to shoot 50 percent from the field, including 5-of-13 from
three-point range. They made 15-of-18 free throws.
LSSU out-rebounded NMU 20-10 during the first half and 38-25 for
the game.
Chelsea Lyons scored 10 points to lead NMU (9-13 overall, 4-11
GLIAC). The Wildcats shot 32.1 percent from the field, including
5-of-17 from behind the arc, and made 7-of-11 free throws.
LSSU plays host to eighth-ranked Michigan Tech at 3 p.m.
Saturday as part of Laker Basketball Alumni Weekend.
