DETROIT - A late-game 16-2 run brought the Wayne State women's basketball team back into contention during Thursday's game agaist Lake Superior State, and WSU's Paige Sickmiller made two baskets during the final 37 seconds to seal a 56-54 Warriors victory.

LSSU (15-9 overall, 12-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) led 28-22 at halftime and 46-31 with 11:44 remaining in the second half. Wayne State (9-16 overall, 8-10 GLIAC) cut the lead to 48-47 with 2:37 to go, and tied it 52-52 with 1:10 left.

Sickmiller gave Wayne State its first lead of the game, 54-52, with a jumper at the 37-second mark. LSSU's Emily Joseph answered to tie it, 54-54. Sickmiller, who finished with 14 points and six rebounds, scored the game-winning basket with four seconds remaining.

Cassy Schemberger totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Lake Superior State. Nicole Marshall scored 11 points, and Joseph had 10. The Lakers shot 41.2 percent from the field, including 4-of-19 from three-point range, and made 8-of-12 free throws.

Phaebre Colbert led WSU with 16 points and nine rebounds before fouling out. The Warriors shot 39 percent from the field, including 1-of-10 from behind the arc, and made 9-of-14 free throws. They out-rebounded LSSU, 39-35.

LSSU's Maria Blazejewski, who finished with seven points, also fouled out.

LSSU, which has clinched a GLIAC Tournament berth, concludes the regular season at 3 p.m. Saturday at Findlay.
