Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State women's basketball
team ended its four-game early January homestand
Saturday with a 55-36 loss to Northern Michigan.
NMU (8-7 overall, 4-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) limited LSSU to 12 field goals. The Wildcats took early
control of the game and led 34-18 at halftime.
Chelsea Lyons totaled 13 points and five assists, Courtney Lemon
scored 11 points, and Hillary Bowling finished with 10 points and
10 rebounds to lead Northern Michigan. The Wildcats shot 37.7
percent from the field, including 8-of-24 from behind the arc, and
made 7-of-11 free throws. They held a 40-39 rebounding edge.
Cassy Schemberger led Lake Superior State with 14 points and
nine rebounds. Maria Blazejewski followed with 13 points.
LSSU (5-10 overall, 1-7 GLIAC) committed a season-low nine
turnovers, but shot only 21.4 percent from the field. The Lakers
were 2-of-16 from three-point range and made 10-of-14 free
throws.
LSSU plays Jan. 19 at Lake Erie.
