Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Ferris State prevailed 65-56 over Lake
Superior State as both teams struggled with cold shooting
during Thursday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
women's basketball game at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
LSSU (5-7 overall, 1-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) was 20-of-55 from the field for 36.4 percent, but
stayed within reach of the Bulldogs (7-4 overall, 5-1
GLIAC) until they scored eight unanswered points to go ahead
63-50 with 1:28 remaining in the contest.
Senior center Cassy Schemberger led LSSU with 15 points and
eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Raven Trammell followed with
12 points, four assists and three steals. FSU held
Laker junior forward Maria Blazejewski to a season-low nine
points. Blazejewski entered the game averaging 18.2
points per game against GLIAC competition.
Christina Branch, Kylie Muntz and Nikki Arner scored 12 points
each to lead Ferris State. Branch also led the Bulldogs in rebounds
with 11 as FSU dominated the boards, 43-34. Ferris State shot 36.4
percent from the field, including 6-of-15 from three-point range,
and made 10-of-12 free throws.
LSSU was 8-of-25 from three-point range and 9-of-11 at the
free-throw line. LSSU and FSU combined to total 43 turnovers.
Lake Superior State continues its homestand at 1 p.m. Saturday
against Grand Valley State.
