Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State fought back from a 2-0
deficit to win Sets 3 and 4 only to lose a five-set heartbreaker to
Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
SVSU (11-15 overall, 6-8 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) defeated LSSU, 25-19, 25-18, 27-29, 23-25, 15-10. The
Lakers fell to 4-21 overall and 1-13 in the GLIAC.
Sophomore Chloe Balanda totaled 12 kills and five block assists
to lead LSSU. She had only one attack error for a match-leading
.524 attack percentage. Balanda's attack rate was also a team
season high.
Nikki Stratelak added 10 kills and 17 digs.
MaryLou Drobish totaled 22 assists, while Katie Fitzpatrick
followed with 18. Meghan Drobish led in digs with 25. Gaby Olsen
was one of three Lakers with seven kills and led LSSU in blocks
with six block assists.
Stratelak, MaryLou Drobish and Fitzpatrick combined to total
seven service aces.
Mackenzie Frodle led SVSU with 18 kills, a .361 attack
percentage and seven block assists. Katie Czopek added 12.
SVSU improved to 2-3 in five-set matches, while LSSU dropped to
1-4.
LSSU plays host to No. 25 Ferris State at 7 p.m. Friday.
