Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Lake Superior State trailed significantly at
halftime for the second time in as many games, but
Saturday the Lakers rebounded to beat Illinois-Springfield
67-62 at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference vs.
Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Crossover hosted by
Missouri-St. Louis.
After trailing 34-23 at halftime, LSSU (1-1) opened the second
half with a 14-2 run to lead 37-36 with 15:25 remaining.
Illinois-Springfield (0-2) bounced back from a 51-50 deficit to
lead by four points with 6:42 to go, but the Lakers responded with
eight unanswered points during a 3:32 span and built a 59-55
lead.
Lake Superior State led 63-60 when the teams traded turnovers
during the final 1:30. After UIS missed a layup, Lakers Derek
Billing and Jorddan Myrick made two free throws each to protect
their team's lead.
Billing finished with 16 points and five rebounds, while Cameron
Metz totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds. Myrick also scored 14
points and had five rebounds. Derek Kinney contributed 10 points
and five steals.
LSSU, which trailed 52-33 at halftime during Friday's 20-point
loss to UMSL, shot 41.2 percent from the field against
Illinois-Springfield, including 4-of-19 from three-point range, and
made 16-of-20 free throws. The Lakers out-rebounded UIS, 18-15.
Dylan Mosack led the Prairie Stars with 12 points and six
rebounds. UIS shot 40 percent from the field, including 4-of-12
from three-point range, and made 23-of-32 free throws.
LSSU continues play against GLVC opponents on Nov. 17 at St.
Joseph's.
