Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Lake Superior State survived a late comeback
by the Lake Erie women's basketball team to win its second straight
game and first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road
game of the 2012-13 season.
The Lakers won 44-38 on Monday to improve to 3-6 overall and 2-3
in the GLIAC. Lake Erie fell to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the
GLIAC.
LSSU stymied Lake Erie during the first half, scoring 14 points
off Storm turnovers to build a 22-11 lead. The Lakers led
31-20 with 14:28 remaining in the second half before giving up
seven straight points. Lake Erie eventually cut the lead to two
points, 33-31, with 7:44 to go.
Senior Maria Blazejewski, who led LSSU with 16 points, responded
with an assist on a jumper by Kandace Crittendon and a layup,
giving the Lakers a 37-31 cushion. The Storm again cut it to two
points, 40-38, but Blazejewski converted another layup with 1:09 to
go. The Lakers held the Storm scoreless during the final
minute.
While Blazejewski was the only Laker to score in double figures,
Candice LaCross contributed six points and nine rebound for Lake
Superior State. LSSU shot 40 percent from the field, including
2-of-6 from three-point range, and made 10-of-18 free throws. The
Lakers dominated the boards, 42-30.
Kaeding Skelton scored 11 points, and Ashar Harris totaled 10
points and 10 rebounds to lead Lake Erie. The Storm shot 25 percent
from the field, including 4-of-25 from behind the arc, and made
6-of-13 free throws.
LSSU plays No. 1-ranked Ashland on Wednesday.
