Box Score 2 FAYETTE, Iowa - Lake Superior State opened the 2012 volleyball
season Friday with a 3-0 victory over the University of Mary
and a 3-2 victory over the South Dakota School of Mines. They were
the first two of four matches at the Upper Iowa Fall Classic.
LSSU swept Mary, 27-25, 25-15, 25-20. Junior Emily Snyder had
two kills, and LSSU took advantage of a Mary attack error to come
back from a 25-24 deficit in the first set. The Lakers beat the
Lady Marauders handily in sets 2 and 3.
Snyder finished with 12 kills. Senior Nikki Stratelak totaled
eight kills and 12 digs, and had a .333 attack percentage. Freshman
Gaby Olsen added nine kills and a .353 attack percentage. Sophomore
Meghan Drobish contributed eight digs, and junior Katie Fitzpatrick
had seven.
Olsen, Snyder and Stratelak all hit double figures in kills as
LSSU battled to a 25-11, 19-25, 12-25, 25-17, 16-14 victory over
the South Dakota School of Mines.
Olsen finished with 15 kills and an impressive .333 attack
percentage, while Snyder and Stratelak added 14 kills each and
combined to total 32 digs. After dropping two straight sets, the
Lakers mounted a .400 attack rate (21-5-40) during Set 4, and
committed only two errors on 29 attempts during Set 5.
Fitzpatrick compiled 24 digs, while Meghan Drobish had 22.
LSSU setter MaryLou Drobish compiled 81 assists and five service
aces for the day.
