Balanda combined for 23 kills to lead the Lake Superior State
volleyball team to its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference victory of the season. The Lakers swept Lake Erie 25-19,
26-24, 25-14 Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Balanda paced LSSU (4-11 overall, 1-6 GLIAC) in the first set
with five kills, while Stratelak contributed a
team-leading five kills in the second set and four
more in the third. Freshman Gaby Olsen finished with eight
kills and a team-leading .400 attack percentage.
As a team, LSSU posted a season-high attack percentage of
.304.
Senior MaryLou Drobish totaled 26 assists, while junior Katie
Fitzpatrick added 13. Sophomore Meghan Drobish led the Lakers in
digs with 19.
Olsen had one solo block and two block assists, while freshman
Sydne McMullen added three block assists.
Molly Richardson totaled 11 kills to lead Lake Erie (2-10
overall, 0-7 GLIAC).
LSSU plays at Tiffin on Oct. 5.
