Box Score UNIVERSITY CENTER - Saginaw Valley State held Lake Superior
State to nine first-half field goals to build an eight-point
cushion, then shot a blistering 60.7 percent from the field during
the second half to win 68-52 Thursday.
Kandace Crittendon scored 18 points and Maria Blazejewski added
12 to lead the LSSU women's basketball team, which fell to 4-9
overall and 3-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference. The Lakers shot 33.9 percent from the field for the
game, including 3-of-13 from three-point range, and made 9-of-11
free throws.
Saginaw Valley State (6-6 overall, 4-4 GLIAC), which dominated
the boards, 47-27, was led by two players with double doubles in
scoring and rebounding. Emily Wendling finished with 18 points and
16 rebounds, and Samantha Zirzow totaled 18 points and 10
rebounds.
SVSU shot 47.5 percent from the field after making 17-of-28
field-goal attempts during the second half. The Cardinals were
5-of-17 from behind the arc and 7-of-12 at the free-throw line.
SVSU led 27-19 at halftime.
LSSU plays at Northwood at 3 p.m. Saturday.
