Box Score MIDLAND - Northwood was the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference opponent in four games to contain Lake Superior
State shooters and hold the Lakers under 40 percent from the field,
and keeping the Lakers from making an explosive run led to a
64-55 Northwood win Saturday.
Northwood (5-9 overall, 4-6 GLIAC) ended the LSSU men's
basketball win streak at six games. The Lakers (8-5 overall, 6-4
GLIAC) were outscored 8-1 during the last four minutes of the
game.
Derek Billing totaled 15 points and eight rebounds to lead LSSU.
Derek Kinney finished with eight points and six rebounds, and
Rashaun Carroll added eight points.
Lake Superior State shot 35.7 percent from the field, including
4-of-22 from three-point range, and made 11-of-15 free throws. The
Lakers entered the game with one of the GLIAC's top
three-point field-goal percentages, but were held to 18.2 percent,
which is their second-lowest percentage of the season.
Will Bowles totaled 19 points and nine rebounds, and Wes Wilcox
added 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Northwood. The Timberwolves
shot 41.5 percent from the field, including 4-of-15 from behind the
arc, and made 16-of-20 free throws. The GLIAC's leading rebounding
team held a 38-34 advantage on the boards.
LSSU, which is 4-4 on the road and 3-1 at home, plays host to
Grand Valley State at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
