Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Four Michigan Tech players combined to make
11-of-14 three-point attempts, which enabled the Huskies to prevail
over the Lake Superior State women's basketball team 70-58 Saturday
at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
MTU guard Sam Hoyt was 5-of-7 from behind the arc and led all
scorers with 27 points. Jillian Ritchie added 11 points and seven
rebounds.
Michigan Tech (13-5 overall, 11-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) extended a six-point
second-half lead to 64-49 following back-to-back
three-pointers by Hoyt and one more by Emma Veach. MTU led 34-30 at
halftime.
The Huskies shot 43.1 percent from the field, including 11-of-16
from behind the arc as a team. They made 9-of-14 free throws
and out-rebounded LSSU, 37-31.
Maria Blazejewski totaled 25 points and seven rebounds, and
Kandace Crittendon added 13 points and seven rebounds to lead Lake
Superior State (5-13 overall, 4-10 GLAIC).
The Lakers shot 42.9 percent from the field, including 2-of-10
from three-point range, and made 8-of-13 free throws.
LSSU's next game is Saturday, Feb. 2, at Wayne State.
