Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Ohio Dominican stayed within reach of Lake
Superior State throughout Thursday's women's basketball game and
controled the final 1:48 to win 63-61 at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
LSSU's Maria Blazejewski canned a three-pointer for a 61-59
Laker edge with 1:59 remaining, but Ohio Dominican's Rachael Torey
converted a three-point play 11 seconds later for a 62-61 Panther
advantage. ODU's Kacee Hockenberry closed out the scoring by making
one of two free throws with seven seconds to go.
Lake Superior State (3-8 overall, 2-5 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) missed three shots down the
stretch.
Blazejewski led the Lakers with 28 points, five rebounds, four
assists and two steals. Kandace Crittendon finished with 12 points,
four assists and two steals. LSSU shot 43.6 percent from the field,
including 4-of-12 from three-point range, and made 9-of-13 free
throws.
Katelyn Stuckey and Hockenberry scored 13 points each, and Torey
added 12 to lead the Panthers (4-6 overall, 1-6 GLIAC). ODU
out-rebounded LSSU 35-26, but totaled 20 turnovers to the Lakers'
10. The Panthers shot 50 percent from the field, including 14-of-24
during the second half. They were 2-of-6 free three-point range and
13-of-18 at the free-throw line.
LSSU led 29-28 at halftime.
The Lakers play host to Tiffin at 3 p.m. Saturday.
