Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State closed the first half of
Thursday's men's basketball game against Ohio Dominican with an
impressive 27-3 run and cruised to a 93-57 victory.
The Lakers (6-4 overall, 4-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference), who held ODU scoreless for eight straight
minutes, built a 52-23 halftime lead. They went on to set
a season high for team scoring, hold their second straight opponent
to less than 60 points and extend their win streak to four
games.
Sophomore guard Alex Williams led LSSU with a season-high 21
points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Derek Billing
followed with 20 points and five assists. Senior Derek Kinney added
15 points and nine rebounds, and junior Cameron Metz followed with
12 points. Rashaun Carroll contributed six points and six
assists.
Williams scored 13 of the Lakers' 27 points during their
first-half scoring surge.
The Lakers totaled six dunks, including three by Metz.
LSSU shot a season-high 59.3 percent from the field,
including 8-of-16 from three-point range, and made 15-of-22 free
throws. The Lakers out-rebounded ODU, 43-26.
Brandon Carr scored 15 points to lead Ohio Dominican (3-9
overall, 0-7 GLIAC). The Panthers shot 34.4 percent from the field,
including 6-of-19 from three-point range, and made 9-of-11 free
throws.
LSSU plays host to Tiffin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cooper
Gymnasium.
