Box Score CANTON, Ohio - Lake Superior State defeated Walsh Friday to
garner its first road volleyball victory of the season and improve
to 1-2 in five-set matches this season. The Lakers lost a marathon
first set at Malone on Saturday, dropped the match by a 3-0 score
and went finished 1-1 for the weekend.
The Lakers (2-13 overall, 2-9 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) beat Walsh, 25-17, 10-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-12,
and lost at Malone, 31-29, 25-20, 25-14. Walsh dropped to 4-13
overall and 1-9 in the GLIAC. Malone improved to 9-10 overall and
4-7 in the GLIAC.
After splitting the first four sets of Friday's match, LSSU and
Walsh battled to a 9-9 deadlock during the tie-breaker.
LSSU eeked out an 11-9 lead during Set 5 thanks to back-to-back
setting and attacking errors by Walsh. After Walsh cut the lead to
11-10, the Lakers and Cavaliers traded points until it was 14-12.
LSSU's Jen Marren closed out the match with a kill.
Marren led the Lakers with 13 kills, and Emily Snyder followed
with 10. Chloe Balanda and Gaby Olsen both had three block assists.
Janelle Nagy finished with 36 assists, and Meghan Drobish led in
digs with 23 and service aces with three. Three players totaled 10
or more kills for Walsh.
Snyder totaled 14 kills and Sydne McMullen had 11 during the
loss to Malone. Both Lakers posted attack rates above .400. Snyder
set new team seasons high for most kills and highest attack
percentage (.423) in a three-set match.
Nagy finished with 42 assists, and Drobish had 12 digs. Taylor
Slauterbeck of Malone led all hitters with 15 kills.
