SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State opens
regular-season play against Atlantic Hockey's Robert Morris at 7:37
p.m. Friday and 5:07 p.m. Saturday at the Taffy Abel Arena. The
series will also feature Laker Hockey Parents Weekend and a
25th reunion for the 1988 National Champions.
The public is invited to festivities for the 1988 team. A
pre-game tailgate at the Alumni House is 5-7 p.m. Friday. It's free
for Alumni Association members and $5 for the public. Following
Friday's game, the Soo BlueLiners are hosting a social at the
Cisler Center, and special guests include Laker Hockey parents and
1988 alumni. A post-game social is scheduled for Saturday at
Moloney's Alley.
Former Lakers from the 1987-88 squad who will be in attendance
this weekend include Kord Cernich, Karl Johnston, Rene Chapdelaine,
Ken Martel, Tim Harris, Terry Hossack, Craig Hewson, Mike DeCarle,
Jeff Jablonski, Jeff Napierala, Brett Barnett, Pete Stauber, Dan
Keczmer, Anthony Palumbo, Ed Fuss, Dean Dyer, Brandon Reed and Doug
Laprade. LSSU coach Jim Roque '87 was a volunteer assistant
coach for the Lakers that season.
LSSU last played Robert Morris during the 2009-10 season,
defeating the Colonials 7-6 and 2-0 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Overall, the
Lakers lead the all-time series against Robert Morris, 5-1-0. At
the Taffy Abel Arena, LSSU is 3-1-0.
The Lakers lost a home exhibition game, 3-2, to the U.S.
National Team Development Program Under-18 squad last Sunday.
Senior forward Dan Radke tallied both goals for the Lakers, while
senior forward Colin Campbell netted two assists. Senior defenseman
Zach Sternberg earned one assist to round out Lakers'
scoring.
The Colonials are coming off a 2-0 exhibition win to Toronto.
Zac Lynch tallied one goal and one assist during the win over
Toronto. Lynch led the RMU 2012-13 freshmen class in point scoring
with 5-9--14. The Colonials return their leading goal scorer, Cody
Wydo (21-12--33), who tied for first in overall goals scored in the
Atlantic Hockey League last season.
