Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Seven players scored in double figures for
the Lake Superior State men's basketball team during Sunday's 93-71
victory over Illinois-Springfield.
With the win, the Lakers (2-0) were the sole undefeated team
during this weekend's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference vs. Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge. During
Sunday's earlier game, Missouri-St. Louis (1-1) defeated Northwood
(1-1), 78-66.
LSSU shot 58.6 percent from the field during the second half to
pull away from a 51-40 halftime lead. The Lakers maintained a
first-half lead by making 7-of-14 three-point attempts. Alex
Williams and Jordan Dasuqi both canned two first-half treys, and
Jake Blake, Cameron Metz and Derek Billing added one.
Metz led all LSSU scorers for the game with 19 points. He was
6-of-7 from the field and totaled 11 rebounds. Blake was 3-for-4
from behind the arc, finished with 14 points and had a team-high 12
rebounds.
Also scoring in double figures for LSSU were Dasuqi with 13
points, Tony Harris with 12, Williams and Billing with 11 each, and
Devin Daly with 10. Daly also totaled seven rebounds. Williams led
the Lakers in assists with seven, while Billing had six and Harris
five.
LSSU shot 52.5 percent from the field for the game, including
11-of-24 from three-point range, and made 18-of-22 free throws.
Regen Bruenger scored 14 points and Jacob Williams added 13 for
UIS (0-2). The Prairie Stars shot 41.5 percent from the field,
including 6-of-10 from behind the arc, and made 21-of-31 free
throws.
LSSU out-rebounded UIS, 41-30.
The Lakers play host to St. Joseph's at 1 p.m. on Nov. 16.
