Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State battled
to the wire for the second time this season, and the Huskies again
prevailed in five sets, winning Friday's volleyball match 25-19,
22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13.
Sets 2, 3, 4 and 5 were all hotly-contested. MTU (10-19 overall,
6-11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) inched away
from an 9-9 tie during the fifth set by taking advantage of
back-to-back LSSU errors. A few points later, after a service
error, Laker Justice Kjolhede served an ace to tie it, 13-13.
A kill by MTU's Sylvie Rokosh made it 14-13, and the match ended
on an LSSU attack error.
Despite some untimely mistakes, LSSU (4-20 overall, 2-15 GLIAC)
celebrated Senior Night with outstanding performances by all three
Laker seniors. Emily Snider finished with 20 kills and 10 digs,
while Chloe Balanda had seven kills and two block assists. Billie
McLeod turned in two kills and one block assist.
Jen Marren added 12 kills, while Meghan Drobish had 21 digs.
Janelle Nagy finished with 42 assists. Sydne McMullen compiled
three solo blocks and four block assists as the Lakers totaled nine
team blocks to Michigan Tech's four.
Kendall Ward led MTU with 18 kills, followed by Rokosh with 15
and Kienna Sharp 11.
LSSU closes its season at 4 p.m. Saturday with a home match
against Northern Michigan.
