Box Score ALLENDALE - Grand Valley State shot a season-high 70 percent
from behind the arc and a season-high 60 percent from the field to
beat the Lake Superior State men's basketball team 82-57
Thursday.
GVSU (16-6 overall, 13-5 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) made 7-of-10 three-point attempts and 24-of-40
field-goal attempts to dominate the game. The Lakers were also
27-of-35 at the free-throw line. They shot a blistering 12-of-19
from the field to control the second half, 44-28.
Breland Hogan led Grand Valley State with 23 points, and Ryan
Sabin followed with 19. Rob Woodson came off the bench to score 16
points.
LSSU (12-10 overall, 9-9 GLIAC), which shot below 40 percent
from the field in its second straight game, was led by Cameron
Metz with 17 points and nine rebounds. Alex Williams scored 11
points and Tony Harris added 10.
LSSU leading scorer Derek Billing was held to six points, and
No. 2 scorer Derek Kinney finished with two points, fouling out
with 17 minutes of playing time. The Lakers shot 38.6 percent from
the field, including 6-of-18 from three-point range, and made
17-of-27 free throws.
Grand Valley State led 38-29 at halftime. LSSU cut it to six
points, 46-40, at 15:56 of the second half. GVSU extended a
nine-point lead to 19 points, 62-43, with an 11-1 run. The Lakers'
biggest lead was 25 points.
LSSU plays at Ferris State at noon Saturday.
