Box Score BIG RAPIDS - Ferris State relied on an impressive second half to
come from behind and beat the Lake Superior State men's
basketball team 63-54 Saturday. The Bulldogs salvaged a season
split against the Lakers.
The Bulldogs (14-9 overall, 13-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference), who were 11-point losers to the Lakers in
January, were 14-of-28 from the field during the second half
after trailing 31-28 at halftime. Midway through the second half,
they embarked on an 18-5 run to overcome a nine-point deficit
and go ahead, 46-42.
Josh Fleming, who came off the bench to lead Ferris State with
20 points and five rebounds, made a layup after a LSSU offensive
foul to give his team a 57-52 edge. When the Lakers were forced to
foul, he slid inside for a dunk and a 61-54 FSU lead with 39
seconds to go.
Derek Kinney led Lake Superior State (12-11 overall, 9-10 GLIAC)
with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Cameron Metz added 14 points and
nine rebounds as the Lakers out-rebounded FSU, 41-30. Alex Williams
followed with nine points and five rebounds.
LSSU shot 36.8 percent from the field, including 5-of-18 from
three-point range, and made 7-of-13 free throws. The Lakers were
8-of-27 from the field during the second half.
Dietrich Lever added 10 points and four rebounds for Ferris
State. The Bulldogs shot 43.1 percent from the field, including
11-of-21 from behind the arc, and made 2-of-4 free throws.
LSSU plays at Northern Michigan on Feb. 21.
