Box Score MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan scored nine unanswered points
during a 1:46 span late in the second half to take control of
Thursday's women's basketball game against Lake Superior State.
LSSU (5-19 overall, 4-16 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) cut NMU's lead to five points,
53-48, on two Taylor Greene free throws with 4:27 remaining. Brooke
Coenen had a layup and two free throws to lead the
Wildcats' pivotal run. They regained a double-figure lead
and eventually won 64-53.
Maria Blazejewski was 10-of-10 at the free-throw line and led
Lake Superior State with 20 points and five rebounds. Greene
finished with 12 points and five steals as the Lakers forced 18 NMU
turnovers.
LSSU shot 34 percent from the field, including 2-of-6 from
three-point range, and made 15-of-20 free throws.
Coenen came off the bench to lead Northern Michigan (12-12
overall, 9-11 GLIAC) with 13 points and was the Wildcats' only
double-figure scorer. NMU shot 43.9 percent from the field,
including 7-of-19 from behind the arc, and made 21-of-30 free
throws. The Wildcats out-rebounded LSSU, 36-30.
LSSU plays at Michigan Tech at 3 p.m. Saturday.
