Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - The Northwood men's basketball team shot an
impressive 15-of-30 from behind the arc to beat Lake Superior State
85-78 Saturday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
The Timberwolves (10-11 overall, 9-8 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) made an impressive 8-of-15 three-point
attempts while building a 36-30 halftime lead. They opened the
second half with a 14-3 run that included 4-of-7 shooting from
behind the arc.
Lake Superior State (12-9 overall, 9-8 GLIAC) cut the lead to
eight points, 59-51, with 7:32 remaining, but Northwood answered
with another triple and controlled the rest of the contest.
Wes Wilcox led Northwood with 25 points and five rebounds, while
Cameron Joyce followed with 15 points and Darvin Ham had 14. The
threesome was a combined 10-of-17 from three-point range.
Northwood shot 52.1 percent from the field for the game and made
20-of-28 free throws. The Timberwolves held a 33-31 rebounding
edge.
Derek Kinney totaled 25 points and nine rebounds to lead LSSU.
Alex Williams followed with 22 points and five rebounds, and Derek
Billing contributed 10 points and six assists. LSSU shot 39.7
percent from the field, including 9-of-21 from behind the arc, and
made 19-of-23 free throws.
LSSU begins a four-game road stretch on Feb. 14 at Grand Valley
State.
